Cyprus is in the top 5 of the 2019 Global Peace List, the ranking of the safest countries in the world. Cyprus is beaten only by countries like Switzerland, Singapore and Norway on this list of the safest countries, and is ranked far higher than neighbouring countries.
Alongside climate, safety is an important deciding factor when choosing a specific country in which to buy a house or holiday home abroad. After all, you want to be able to enjoy your life there, or the holidays that you spend there, in peace.
Cyprus has been known for its excellent climate for many years. The sun shines for about 9 months a year, and the warm Mediterranean Sea breeze always feels pleasant on the skin.
But perhaps less well known is that Cyprus is also one of the safest countries in the world. This is mainly because the geopolitical climate in the country has been stable for years, and crime rates in Cyprus are some of the lowest in the world.
Cyprus has the best combination of climate and security
Right before the Covid-19 outbreak in Europe, a French travel cover company rated Cyprus the fifth safest country to go to in 2020. Adding that Cyprus continues to be hailed as one of the top-performing countries in Europe in handling the COVID-19 outbreak, we suspect that rating will only improve through the Summer.
The holiday season is a time of fun and relaxation for most people as well as a chance to place worries behind you. However, there are always worries about something going wrong. Terrorism, disasters and crime are simply three from the major concerns for globetrotters, and now we also have the pandemic.

French travel cover company Insurly has according to an article from that appeared in express.co.uk identified the 10 safest countries for 2020.
Insurly collected data on disasters, transport, the calibre of healthcare systems and amounts of violent crime and terrorist threat. This is why we also consider the rankings restricted to countries within Europe – which therefore come with an acceptable traveling distance.
On that list, Cyprus is the fifth safest country, just after the more isolated Iceland and followed by Austria, Denmark and Portugal.

On Facebook, various readers who have previously bought houses in Cyprus agree that the country deserves its position in the Global Peace List. “In my opinion, Cyprus is the leader as a peaceful, friendly and safe country to live in”, writes one of them.
